Locomotive repairs

Ground Transportation Industry

The ground transportation industry relies on AERO Component Repair, LLC™ to overhaul turbine inlet scrolls and much more. Industrial turbines in this industry undergo a lot of abuse. To overhaul the turbine inlet scroll, we can cut off old flanges, put on new ones, heat treat, and machine it. In other words, we fabricate the repair details to overhaul the part effectively. Once overhauled, the customer has a reliable finished product that is built for reliability over a long period.

We commit ourselves to the repair and fabrication of components that work for as long as possible. Our welders are certified to AWS D17.1, and our NDT inspectors are certified to ASNT Level II in FPI and MPI. We use such an intricate inspection process that you can be confident the part is going to save you time and money.

Locomotive Repairs & Overhaul for Ground Transportation Industry

The ground transportation industry is very easy. One area in particular that we repair parts for is the locomotive sector. Locomotives have turbines that bear a significant load. Our capabilities are vast in this area, as we are able to machine and grind parts to the tightest tolerances. We can:

  • Restore lengths, diameters, and dowel pinholes.
  • Restore lab seals.
  • Restore labyrinth seal teeth that are worn and bearing journals that are worn or scored.
  • Perform in-house brush plating repairs.

These capabilities work not only in the ground transportation industry but also in the oil and gas industry. Our solutions save a great deal of time because we work quickly. We also save our customers money through reduced downtime and the ability to repair rather than replace the part.

State-of-the-Art Machines

The machines we use to perform the locomotive repairs are state of the art. For instance, we have seven milling machines that include 9×42 tables with digital readouts, a surface grinder with a magnetic chuck, and a CNC Milltronics vertical machining center with a 40x20x24-inch machining envelope. This just covers milling and grinding.

Our inspection process includes nondestructive testing with a fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI), and magnetic particle inspection (MPI). We will use the right inspection methods to ensure the finished part we release to the customer goes above and beyond the required integrity.
